Exposure to Manganese Leads to Parkinsonism
In 1990, Sjogren identified neuropsychiatric findings in 217 railroad workers. He found that welders exposed to manganese had a risk six times greater chance of developing Parkinson’s disease-like symptoms than those without such exposures. He later studied the issue again and found that 12 out of the 12 welders studied had significant neurological deficiencies. Incredibly, the mean exposure to manganese for these welders was only 270 hours.
